Square and Service Install: the commerce handoff

Where payments, invoices, customer context, and accountable field work meet without pretending they are the same system.

A payment system and an operating system answer different questions. Square is a commerce foundation for customers, catalog, orders, invoices, receipts, and payments. Service Install is the connected work layer around the service request: what happened, where, who owns the next step, and what evidence supports the closeout.

The handoff should be clear. A customer request enters through a call, text, email, or web form. The shop resolves the customer, site, equipment, and work needed. Once the scope is approved, the commercial record can move through the payment system with less ambiguity.

This separation is a strength when it is designed intentionally. The shop does not need one tool to pretend it is excellent at everything. It needs the important identifiers, statuses, and approvals to travel cleanly between the tools it trusts.

For a shop setting up Square, the practical question is not whether Square replaces the operating layer. It is whether the payment and invoice path can receive a well-defined piece of work from a record the team can explain. That is the commerce handoff Service Install is designed to make visible.
